Fans turned out in large numbers to watch Virat Kohli on the opening day (Thursday, January 30) of the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 match between Delhi and Railways in Delhi. Since Delhi chose to bowl first, the crowd was unable to see Kohli bat.
Despite this, the former Indian captain kept the energy high in the stadium with several gestures towards the crowd. One such moment has gone viral, where Kohli engaged two sections of the crowd in a cheering contest.
While fielding in the slip cordon, he raised his hand towards the crowd on his right. When they erupted in cheer, he playfully asked them to stop. Kohli then encouraged the other section of the crowd to cheer by raising his hands towards them. Afterward, he gave a thumbs-up to the crowd on his right, declaring them the winners.
The star Indian batter then turned to the crowd on his left and made a ‘have you eaten’ gesture, signalling that they were lacking energy compared to the other side. You can watch the video here:

Virat Kohli Set to Bat on Day 2 as Delhi Take Control on Opening Day
Home captain Ayush Badoni won the toss and chose to have Railways bat first in their final group stage match of the Ranji Trophy 2024-25. Despite half-centuries from Upendra Yadav and Karn Sharma, Railways were bowled out for just 241 runs in their first innings.
Navdeep Saini (3), Sumit Mathur (3), Siddhant Sharma (2), and Money Grewal (2) took the wickets for Delhi. In reply, the hosts finished the day at 41/1, trailing by 200 runs. As only one wicket fell, Virat Kohli did not come out to bat on the opening day, much to the disappointment of the packed crowd.
However, he is expected to take the field as the game moves into Day 2. With Sanat Sangwan (9*) and Yash Dhull (17*) at the crease, Kohli is anticipated to come in at No. 4 as soon as a wicket falls on Day 2.
