[WATCH] Washington Sundar Dismisses Rachin Ravindra For The Third Time In The Series With Another Great Delivery

Off-spinner Washington Sundar dismissed Rachin Ravindra for the third time in as many innings during the India-New Zealand Test series on Friday, November 1. This brilliant delivery once again completely breached the Southpaw’s defences.

The wicket fell in the 20th over of the first innings of the third match at Wankhede. On the final ball, Sundar bowled a delivery that pitched on the middle-and-off-stump line and drifted towards the batter. It straightened just enough to beat the outside edge and knock over Ravindra’s off-stump.

The standout feature of that delivery was Sundar’s impressive speed, reaching over 92 kph. This rapid pace provided Ravindra with minimal time to react to the ball’s drift and spin.

Sundar had comparably dismissed Ravindra during both innings of the last Test match too. As a result, Ravindra now holds a dismal average of just four against the Indian off-spinner, having managed only 12 runs off 28 balls throughout the series.

Washington Sundar is now the leading wicket-taker in the Test series

Another left-handed batter, Tom Latham, fell similarly earlier on Friday, marking Sundar’s first wicket in this Mumbai Test. These were his 12th and 13th wickets in the series, putting him alongside Mitchell Santner as the joint-highest wicket-taker, despite Santner’s absence from the third Test due to injury.

Sundar achieved this feat after missing the first Test, highlighting both his quality and the team’s decision to select him. It also raises concerns about Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, who have each taken only six wickets so far.

Sundar’s wicket brought New Zealand to 72/3 in 20 overs, but since then, Tom Latham and Will Young have helped stabilize the innings for the visitors.
