India’s all-rounder Washington Sundar reached his well-deserved half-century in emphatic fashion on Day 5 of the Manchester Test, held on Sunday, July 27. The left-handed batter brought up his fifty off 117 balls by striking England skipper Ben Stokes for a six and a four in the same over.
The aggressive charge came in the 112th over of India’s second innings, when Stokes delivered a short ball that Sundar dispatched over backward square leg for a six. He followed it up with another pull shot to the same region for a boundary.
Sundar celebrated the milestone with a broad smile, as his timely blows helped India narrow the deficit to just three runs while marking a fighting personal achievement. You can watch the video here:

Washington Sundar showcased his bowling prowess in the third Test at Lord’s, delivering a standout performance for India. The off-break bowler picked up 4 wickets for only 22 runs in England’s second innings, restricting them to 192.
Despite his efforts, India’s batting lineup fell short in the final innings, resulting in a narrow 22-run loss and putting them behind 1-2 in the ongoing five-match series.
Sundar-Jadeja Century Stand Sparks India’s Fightback In 4th Test
Washington Sundar and Ravindra Jadeja’s unbeaten half-centuries gave India a much-needed lift in the fourth Test against England. The pair added a vital 100-run stand after Gill (103) and Rahul (90) rescued India from 0/2 with a 188-run partnership. At the Tea interval on Day 5, India were 322/4, with Sundar batting on 58 and Jadeja on 53.
With just an 11-run advantage, both batters will aim to extend the lead and keep India’s hopes alive in the series. Previously, India posted 358 in their first innings, only for England to dominate with a massive 669, thanks to Ben Stokes’ brilliant all-round display — scoring 141 and picking up a five-wicket haul. The series finale will take place at The Oval from July 31.
