All-rounder Washington Sundar got Team India off to a great start in the first T20I against New Zealand on Friday, January 27 at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi. He took two wickets in an over, to dismiss Finn Allen and Mark Chapman. His return catch to dismiss Chapman became one of the highlights of the match.
In the fifth over, Mark Chapman came out to bat following Finn Allen’s dismissal. He got beaten by the Indian all-rounder on a few occasions in the over. On the fourth delivery, Sundar bowled an outside off-stump ball, the Kiwi batter pushed at it but did not keep try to keep the ball low. Washington Sundar dived full length to his right and completed a stunning catch. Chapman had to walk back for a disappointing four-ball duck.

New Zealand puts on 175 runs in the first innings
New Zealand put on 175 runs in the first innings, on the back of Daryl Mitchell and Devon Conway’s fifties. Conway scored 52 runs off 35 balls, with seven boundaries and a six. Meanwhile, Daryl Mitchell slammed 59 run runs off .30 deliveries, with three boundaries and five sixes. Washington Sundar was the pick of the bowler of India, with two wickets in four overs at an economy rate of 5.5.
Earlier in the match, Team India skipper Hardik Pandya won the toss and elected to bowl first. He expressed that dew might play a role in the match. He said, “We will have a bowl first. Looks like a good track. I can see dew right now and hence we want to bowl first.”
Team India will be keen to use the dew to their benefit and take a 1-0 lead in the three-match T20I series.
