[WATCH]: “We Have To Keep Fighting For Their Respect” – Sikandar Raza After Zimbabwe Reach Super 8

Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza delivered an inspiring speech in the dressing room after his side secured a place in the Super 8 stage of the T20 World Cup 2026. Their match against Ireland on Tuesday, February 17, was abandoned due to rain, which confirmed their progression to the next round.

Zimbabwe now sit second in Group B with five points from three matches, including two victories. They became the seventh team to book a spot in the Super 8s. After reaching this milestone, Raza expressed gratitude to his teammates and addressed them with a strong and motivating message.

“All I would say is from a captain’s point of view, how incredibly honored I am to lead such a wonderful group of boys. We set out on a journey close to 18 to 20-odd months ago, and I cannot thank you enough for buying into all those things that Sammo, the rest of the technical staff and myself asked.”

“Along the way, you guys have made a lot of sacrifices, a lot of ups, a lot of downs, a lot of criticism, a lot of praises. But at least in the changing room, we have stuck together as a team. It became a safe place for all of us to be who we are. Honestly, I cannot thank you enough,” he said. (via ICC)

Sikandar Raza urges Zimbabwe to shift focus to bigger goal after Super 8 qualification

Sikandar Raza further stated that while he was satisfied with the team’s qualification for the Super 8s, their focus must now shift to the greater objective and the upcoming stages of the tournament. He emphasized that the players should remain committed to the larger goal and continue working hard to earn global respect through their performances on the field.

“Reaching the Super 8 was one of our goals, but not the ultimate one. Enjoy the moment in the dressing room, but once we step out, our focus shifts to the next game in less than 48 hours. Super 8 is done, let others talk about it. As we discussed earlier, it’s just part of the journey. There’s a bigger achievement we’re aiming for,” Sikandar Raza said.

“So boys, let’s stay focused on the ultimate goal we set. It’s about bringing honour and respect to Zimbabwe so that the world speaks about our country with pride. For that, we must keep fighting and make sacrifices. Once we step out of this dressing room, the emotions are over, we have a travel day and then a crucial game ahead. After that, we’ll see where we stand,” he concluded.
