[WATCH]- West Indies Celebrate After Defeating England To Qualify For The Semi-Finals Of The Women’s T20 World Cup 2024

The West Indies team celebrated in the dugout before heading onto the field after their victory against England in the 20th match of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, held at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Tuesday, October 15. This win secured their spot in the semi-finals alongside Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa.

Aaliyah Alleyne clinched the win for the West Indies with a boundary on the last ball of the 18th over, leading to a six-wicket triumph with two overs remaining. As the ball flew past the boundary, the West Indies erupted with joy, cheering as they rushed onto the field.

In pursuit of a target of 142, West Indies openers Hayley Matthews and Qiana Joseph delivered an impressive performance, adding 102 runs for the first wicket in just 74 balls.

Matthews made 50 runs off 38 balls, hitting seven fours and one six, while Joseph scored 52 runs from 38 deliveries, with six boundaries and two sixes. Deandra Dottin also contributed 27 runs off 19 balls, helping the West Indies achieve a six-wicket victory and secure the top position in Group B.

Afy Fletcher excelled with the ball for West Indies during the first innings

After winning the toss, West Indies chose to bowl first. England’s opening duo, Maia Bouchier and Danielle Wyatt-Hodge, managed to score 29 runs for the first wicket off 23 balls. However, the West Indies bounced back strongly, reducing England from 29-0 to 34-3, with captain Heather Knight retiring hurt after scoring 21 runs off 13 balls.

While England struggled to keep wickets intact, Nat Sciver-Brunt managed to maintain her scoring, finishing not out on 57 off 50 balls, including five fours. England concluded their innings at 141-7 in 20 overs. Afy Fletcher was outstanding for the West Indies, taking three wickets for just 21 runs in her four-over spell.
