[WATCH]- Yashasvi Jaiswal Falls For 28, Unsuccessful Review Follows LBW Dismissal By Josh Tongue

England struck early on Day 3 of the second Test at Edgbaston by removing aggressive opener Yashasvi Jaiswal. The left-hander reviewed the LBW decision, which he and KL Rahul debated at length, but the call stood in England’s favour as the delivery from Josh Tongue had clearly hit the pad in line.

Tongue, who had a tough outing in the first innings, made an immediate impact in his second spell, needing just four balls to make the breakthrough. Bowling from around the wicket, he got the ball to angle in as Jaiswal attempted a flick, only to miss it and be struck on the front pad.

Umpire’s finger went up without hesitation, prompting Yashasvi Jaiswal to opt for a review. While Ben Stokes briefly contested the timing of the DRS call, the umpire allowed it. Ultimately, the decision remained unchanged, ending a solid 51-run opening stand for India. You can watch the video here:

The left-hander provided India with a rapid start, including three boundaries in a single over from Brydon Carse. He also struck a four off Josh Tongue’s second ball in the opening over, though Tongue eventually dismissed him. Jaiswal had earlier played a quickfire knock of 87 in the first innings, making a significant contribution to India’s impressive total of 587.

Jaiswal Falls Early After England Give Up 180-Run Lead

England avoided the follow-on but still gave India a 180-run lead, putting the visitors in control. The hosts resumed Day 3 at 77/3 and quickly slipped to 84/5 after Mohammed Siraj removed Joe Root (22) and Ben Stokes (0) off successive deliveries.

Despite the early collapse, England staged a remarkable comeback through a 303-run stand between Jamie Smith and Harry Brook, which briefly swung the momentum in their favor. However, Brook’s dismissal for 158 triggered another collapse, and England were eventually bowled out for 407.

Smith remained unbeaten on 184. At the end of Day 3, India had stretched their lead to 244 runs.
