[WATCH] ‘You’re Acting Like Malinga!’: Virat Kohli Playfully Teases Shakib Al Hasan

Batting legend Virat Kohli brought some humour to the second day of the first Test in Chennai with a funny comment directed at Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan. Kohli, who came to bat early in the second innings, faced a challenging situation as India lost two quick wickets—skipper Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal—within the first seven overs.

After the openers were dismissed, Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill worked to stabilize the innings, guiding India past the 50-run mark. However, Kohli’s time at the crease was short-lived; he made only 17 runs before being given out LBW to Mehidy Hasan Miraz in the 20th over.

Kohli faced 37 balls, resulting in yet another early dismissal for the seasoned batsman. This took place during India’s second innings while Kohli was at the non-striker’s end. The stump mic picked up Kohli playfully calling Shakib Al Hasan ‘Malinga,’ referencing the legendary Sri Lankan bowler Lasith Malinga, known for his remarkable yorkers.

Kohli’s comment came as Shakib consistently bowled effective yorkers, demonstrating his skill and adding a humorous touch to the match.

Virat Kohli made a witty comment about Bangladesh’s Shakib al Hasan

Kohli quipped, “Tu Malinga bana hua hai, Yorker pe Yorker de raha hai!” This playful remark highlighted both Kohli’s sense of humor and Shakib’s impressive performance, reminiscent of the legendary Malinga known for his lethal yorkers.

Kohli was quickly dismissed by Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Shakib’s spin-bowling partner. He misjudged a harmless off-spinner from Mehidy, which struck his pads. Umpire Richard Kettleborough promptly raised his finger.

After a brief discussion with Shubman Gill, Kohli chose to leave without reviewing the decision. However, replays shocked everyone; the ultra edge showed a significant flicker as the ball passed Kohli’s bat, indicating he would have survived if he had opted for DRS.

Shakib, a standout player for Bangladesh, took the comment in stride, exemplifying the sportsmanship that defines cricket.
