During the ‘no-ball’ drama during the IPL 2022 contest between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Rajasthan Royals (RR), followers of the game witnessed a ‘Kul-Cha’ moment, after a long time, on Friday (April 22). In the last over of the match, the Capitals needed 36 runs to win.

Rovman Powell, DC’s middle-lower order batter was hitting the RR bowlers intensely. Powell smashed RR pacer Obed McCoy’s first three balls for three consecutive sixes, reliving DC’s hopes of victory. The third ball of the over was a high full-toss, which wasn’t called a no-ball by the umpire.

DC skipper Rishabh Pant, extremely outraged by the umpire’s decision, tried to call Powell and Kuldeep Yadav, the two batters on the field, back. Kuldeep too, devastated by the umpire’s decision, seemed to be following his captain’s commands. The left-arm chinaman was amusingly intruded by his old mate and Rajasthan Royals leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal.

Seemingly, Yuzvendra Chahal tried to sort things out by convincing Kuldeep Yadav to continue on the field and not to go by DC skipper Rishabh Pant. He even pushed Yadav, in a friendly manner, to close the drama. Though, the incident was outshined by the immense controversy, as the clip went viral later on. Besides, Yuzvendra Chahal’s efforts seemed to be valuable as Kuldeep continued on the field and the match went on with RR winning by 15 runs.

“I think the third umpire should have interfered” – Rishabh Pant

In the meantime, Pant’s actions received massive criticism everywhere, including on social media. Pant later confessed that his actions weren’t appropriate; the wicket-keeper batter went on saying that DC was undone by the matter.

In the post-match presentation, the DC skipper quoted, “Everyone was frustrated (in the dugout) that it was not even close, everyone in the ground saw that, I think the third umpire should have interfered and said it was a no-ball. Obviously, it wasn’t right (sending Amre onto the field) but what happened with us is also not right.”, Pant added.

More to the point, Rajasthan Royals, batting first, posted the highest total of the season, 222/2, at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. Jos Buttler with his third hundred of IPL 2022, later helped by RR skipper Samson set the colossal target. In response, DC could post 207/8 in 20 overs, as they lost the thriller by 15 runs.
