[WATCH]- Yuzvendra Chahal Completes Kevin Pietersen’s Challenge With A 29-Ball Century Twist

India spinner Yuzvendra Chahal recently took on a unique challenge set by former England batter Kevin Pietersen. Known primarily for his bowling, Chahal showcased his batting skills as he attempted to score 100 runs from 50 deliveries, with the ball speed increasing by 1 mph after every ball, starting at 51 mph.

To add a twist, Pietersen shortened the boundary dimensions to just 40 metres, making the task slightly easier. Chahal got off to a flying start, launching the first two deliveries for sixes. He enjoyed a slice of luck on the third ball when a catch was dropped, before clearing the ropes again on the fourth delivery.

Another dropped catch on the sixth ball worked in his favour as it carried over the boundary for six, helping him maintain his aggressive approach early in the challenge. Yuzvendra Chahal continued his attacking display by hitting the seventh delivery for another six before being caught on the eighth ball, which reduced his score to 26 under the challenge rules.

He reached 33 runs after 10 deliveries and raced to a half-century in just 14 balls, celebrating the milestone as Kevin Pietersen congratulated him with a hug. Chahal suffered another setback on the 16th ball when he was caught while attempting a shot over covers, resulting in a five-run deduction.

A further dismissal on the 20th delivery left him on 56, but he quickly regained momentum with a flurry of sixes. The spinner surged to 90 runs in just 25 balls before bringing up his century with a six off the 29th delivery, surpassing the previous benchmark set by South African great AB de Villiers.

Chahal finished the challenge with 17 sixes and completed the target with 21 balls remaining.

Yuzvendra Chahal Endures Mixed IPL 2026 Campaign

After being retained by Punjab Kings (PBKS) for a hefty ₹18 crore, Yuzvendra Chahal endured a relatively modest IPL 2026 campaign. The leg-spinner picked up 12 wickets in 12 innings, averaging 32.08 with a strike rate of 20.5 and an economy rate of 9.39.

PBKS narrowly missed out on a playoff spot, ending the season fifth in the standings. Following the IPL, Chahal is expected to feature in domestic and county cricket as he continues his efforts to return to the Indian team. His last international appearance came in 2023.

Across two seasons with PBKS, Chahal has claimed 28 wickets in 28 matches. With his form dipping this year, it remains uncertain whether the franchise will retain him ahead of IPL 2027.
