“We Had A Clear Idea About Our Selections For The T20 World Cup Even Before The IPL” – Rohit Sharma

India captain Rohit Sharma has opened up on the T20 World Cup squad. He shared that the squad had already decided before the IPL.

“We had a clear idea about our selections for the T20 World Cup even before the IPL,” stated Rohit Sharma. “We carefully considered and deliberated on the squad we eventually chose for the World Cup.”

Before the IPL, we had already decided on our squad for the T20 World Cup – Rohit Sharma. The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) ended their IPL 2024 season with an 18-run victory over the Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Friday, marking their seventh win of the season.

Despite setting a formidable target of 214 runs and restricting Mumbai to 196 runs, the win wasn’t enough to push LSG into the top four, thus concluding their campaign with an exit in the group stage. Rohit Sharma, who scored an unbeaten 68 runs, discussed the T20 World Cup squad and his IPL 2024 performance in an exclusive interview with JioCinema on Match Centre Live.

“We had put a lot of thought into the World Cup team we ultimately selected,” said Sharma. “We considered spinners, seamers, batters, and keepers. We knew who we would take to the World Cup even before the IPL began. While IPL performances can fluctuate, we didn’t focus too much on that. We needed to observe certain players, but it was crucial for us to provide everyone with the clarity they needed. Before entering the IPL, players needed to know their roles and whether they would be part of the team.”

“So they could practice and play accordingly. We communicated these indicators to about 70% of the team before the IPL.” Reflecting on his own performance during IPL 2024, Sharma acknowledged, “As a batter, I know I didn’t meet the standards. However, with my experience, I understand that overthinking hampers my performance. My focus has always been on maintaining a positive mindset.”

“Staying in the right zone, practicing consistently, and addressing the flaws in my game. That’s what I kept doing. Our season didn’t go as planned. We hold ourselves accountable because we made numerous mistakes throughout the season. We lost many matches that we should have won, but that’s the nature of the IPL. Opportunities are limited, and when they arise, they must be seized.”

Bittersweet Evening for MI Fans as LSG Secures a Narrow Victory

In a bittersweet evening at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai Indians fans watched Rohit Sharma score a classic half-century but also saw their team suffer their tenth defeat of the season.

MI’s chase started brilliantly with Rohit hitting boundaries before a brief rain delay, but they collapsed from 88 for no loss to 120 for 5, ending their realistic chances of winning. The result meant MI, under new captain Hardik Pandya, finished last for the second time in three seasons.
