“We Hope That India Will Play Well” – Sourav Ganguly

Former captain of the Indian cricket team, Sourav Ganguly, offered his perspectives on Saturday regarding Team India’s upcoming ICC T20 World Cup campaign. He stressed the significance of players adopting a liberated approach right from the start of their innings in the prestigious event.

Ganguly praised the Indian squad for the T20 World Cup, calling it “fantastic,” and conveyed his confidence in the team’s performance in the eagerly awaited ICC tournament.

“We hope that India will play well. All the players are good. There are so many players in our country that it becomes difficult to select the playing XI. We are spoiled for choices. They have a fantastic side,” Ganguly told ANI at an event.

The former captain noted the challenge of predicting the top five teams because of the unpredictable nature of the T20 format. He acknowledged that any team could potentially advance.

When asked if he would like to offer guidance to the Indian team, Ganguly responded, “This is Rahul Dravid’s job because he is the coach. We will just watch and cheer for India. I would just like to say that we have to play freely in the T20 format.”

The ICC 120 World Cup will be hosted by the West Indies and the USA from June 2 to 29, with top cricketing nations competing for the prestigious title. India will be eager to end their ICC trophy drought, which has persisted since their victory in the ICC Champions Trophy in 2013.

Despite reaching the finals and semifinals of multiple ICC tournaments, such as the 50-over World Cup, ICC World Test Championship, and T20 World Cup, India has been unable to clinch a significant ICC trophy in recent times.

The Indian team will aim to secure their second T20 WC title, with their sole triumph occurring in the inaugural edition held in South Africa in 2007. In the previous edition hosted by Australia in 2022, India experienced a disheartening 10-wicket loss to England in the semifinals.
