Afghanistan dominated Uganda by 125 runs in their Group C match to get their T20 World Cup campaign off to a flying start. A strong opening pair and a masterful bowling display set up the victory; coach Jonathan Trott gave new bowling guru Dwayne Bravo credit for his contribution.

Dwayne Bravo was named Afghanistan’s bowling consultant two weeks before the T20 World Cup in the USA and the West Indies started. Afghanistan, captained by Rashid Khan, easily overcame Uganda to win by a total of 125 runs.

Afghanistan shined with the ball while defending their total after posting a respectable total of 183/5 on the board. Afghanistani produced a clinical bowling showing, led by the blistering inswinging deliveries of Fazalhaq Farooqi, which caused Uganda to bundle out on 58.

Head coach of Afghanistan Jonathan Trott praised Dwayne Bravo for his contributions since joining the team as a bowling consultant. Trott commended Bravo for his vast expertise and for raising the bar for coaching, particularly with the bowlers.

“DJ [Dwayne Bravo] coming into the side, fantastic. I think as a head coach, having quality coaches with huge experience as players, but also vast franchise experience in this format of the game is only a brilliant thing to have a player like him come on the side as a coach. It makes your job a lot easier but it also makes the coaching more enhanced, especially with the bowlers,” Trott said in the post-match press conference.

“DJ [Dwayne Bravo] coming into the side, fantastic. I think as a head coach, We’ve seen the start of his first game with us and we saw the bowlers bowl well—so credit to Dwayne, credit to Hamid Hassan as well—a bowling coach as well so nice start for the boys,” he added.

This decisive win also sends a clear message to Afghanistan’s rivals in the West Indies and New Zealand. Afghanistan appears to be a team to be reckoned with in the T20 World Cup thanks to a strong opening duo and a bowling assault supported by Bravo’s experience.
