Kolkata Knight Riders suffered a humiliating defeat against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium to reel at 10 points. Eoin Morgan & Co had a poor effort with the bat as they managed to score only 84, which was eventually chased down by Bangalore with eight wickets to spare.

It was a cakewalk for Royal Challengers Bangalore during the chase. Devdutt Padikkal and Aaron Finch set the tone adding 46 runs before Virat Kohli and Gurkeerat Mann took their side home. Lockie Ferguson tried to arrest the run flow but he had almost nothing on the board to bowl.

This defeat will leave Eoin Morgan-led Kolkata Knight Riders in a critical position with the tournament approaching its business end. They will have to win almost all their games to keep them in the hunt for a playoff spot.

Earlier in the day, Mohammad Siraj was just too good against the team that struggled the most with the bat in the powerplay this season. He started off with two back-to-back wickets in his first over and sent Kolkata Knight Riders into shackles.

They tried to trace a path to recovery through their Eoin Morgan and Dinesh Karthik. But Karthik’s struggles against leg-spin this season just got worse as Yuzvendra Chahal picked him for the second time in as many games. Morgan top-scored with 30 runs in otherwise what has been a poor effort from KKR as they managed to put only 84 runs on the board.

Speaking at the end of the game, Eoin Morgan credited RCB bowlers for exploiting what was on offer. He also admitted that his pitch reading went wrong as they should have batted first as well.

“Being 4/5 down early on isn’t the position we wanted to be in. RCB bowled well and probably looking at the conditions, we should have bowled first. We will learn our lessons and move in in the next game.

It was a question of backing the young Indian guys who showed glimpses of talent and potential. They (RCB bowlers) managed to exploit anything that was on offer and given the nature of the tournament every time you have to be at your best against every team,” Eoin Morgan said.
