Delhi Capitals all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin has missed out from today’s playing XI. Today at the toss Shreyas Iyer revealed that veteran leg spinner Amit Mishra would be replacing the off-spinner in the side. The replacement came in because Ashwin walked out of the field after copping a severe blow on his shoulder while fielding off his own bowling during their match against Kings XI Punjab.
Before copping up the blow, Ashwin had bowled a terrific over by giving away just 2 runs and picking up 2 crucial wickets in the same over. His victim included the man from the Caribbean; Nicholas Pooran. After taking the blow Ashwin never featured again in the match.
Ravichandran Ashwin is Doing Pretty Well – Iyer
Even though scans revealed nothing serious, Delhi didn’t want to take a risk which is why they have decided to rest the off-spinner from Tamil Nadu. Shreyas Iyer revealed that they want Ashwin to rest for good 2-3 games before making a comeback in the side.

“Ashwin, I feel is doing pretty well, but we wanted to give him a 2-3 game rest so that he feels better. He’s doing well in the gym,” Shreyas Iyer said at the toss.
In Ashwin’s absence, they have a quality and experienced spinner in the form of Amit Mishra. He is the leading wicket-taker among spinners in the IPL and has also picked three hattricks in the past playing for various other franchises.
Well even though Delhi have someone like Mishra in the side, they will surely miss the quality Ravichandran Ashwin brings to the side.
The game is up for an exciting finish after Delhi Capitals posted 176 runs in their quota of 20 overs. They banked on a 94-run stand including a fifty from Prithvi Shaw to post a massive total. Meanwhile, after a slow start from Chennai Super Kings, they have to play out of their skin to secure a win.
