“We’re Very Excited To Have Him” – Parth Jindal On KL Rahul

The IPL 2025 mega auction kicked off in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, with dramatic bids that shattered previous records. A total of 84 players (72 sold, 12 unsold) were auctioned on Day 1, with franchises spending an astounding ₹467.95 crore.

The highlight of the day was Rishabh Pant, who became the most expensive player in IPL history after being picked by Lucknow Super Giants for ₹27 crore. This broke Shreyas Iyer’s ₹26.75 crore record, who was signed by Punjab Kings. Venkatesh Iyer joined Kolkata Knight Riders for ₹23.75 crore, while Yuzvendra Chahal made history as the costliest Indian spinner with his ₹18 crore deal with Punjab Kings.

Day 2 Excitement: Big Names in the Spotlight

As Day 2 begins, the auction promises more surprises with nearly 500 players waiting to learn their fate. Stars like Faf du Plessis, Prithvi Shaw, and James Anderson are set to go under the hammer.

Delhi Capitals co-owner Parth Jindal announced KL Rahul as their new captain, citing his IPL consistency and leadership qualities as pivotal for the team’s strategy. Rahul, alongside Axar Patel, is expected to anchor the batting lineup. Meanwhile, teams like Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore have significant funds remaining, ensuring heated bidding wars ahead.

Parth Jindal said: “We were looking for stability in the top order, someone with experience who can build the innings. And, I think KL Rahul, given his record in the IPL, he’s someone who’s consistently given more than 400 runs every season. I think with the Kotla wicket, it is going to suit his game. We’re very excited to have him.”

“We have a very young batting lineup. Both KL and Axar are going to lead them and are going to guide them. KL’s batting and experience will be a vital cog in the wheel,”

Uncapped Talent and Budget Strategy

The auction has already seen uncapped players making headlines. Rasikh Salam Dar became the most expensive uncapped player, joining Royal Challengers Bangalore for ₹6 crore. Others like Naman Dhir (₹5.25 crore to Mumbai Indians) and Nehal Wadhera (₹4.2 crore to Punjab Kings) have also secured lucrative deals.

Teams continue to strategize carefully, balancing marquee signings with budget-conscious choices. With franchises still holding significant purse amounts—Mumbai Indians lead with ₹26.10 crore—the remaining auction promises more unexpected turns.

Stay tuned as Day 2 unfolds with more player bids, team strategies, and potential record-breaking moments in the IPL 2025 auction.
