Sunrisers Hyderabad pacer Umran Malik has been the talk of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 season so far. On Thursday, the right-arm pacer shattered his own record to bowl the fastest delivery of the tournament.

Umran Malik has been lauded by the fans and the cricket pundits for his express pace. He is being hailed as one for the future if properly looked after. The Sunrisers Hyderabad pacer wasn’t at his best against Delhi Capitals on Thursday, as he was taken for runs. However, that did not stop him from breaking records. In the 20th over of the first innings, Umran bowled multiple balls above 150km/h.

On the fourth delivery, Umran clocked 157 km/h, bowling a full delivery wide outside off stump, to register the fastest delivery of the season. He broke his own record from this season. This was the second-fastest delivery in the history of the IPL. The record rests with Shaun Tait, who clocked 157.1 km/h to record the fastest delivery in the history of the tournament.

In reply, Sunrisers Hyderabad managed just 186 runs, handing Delhi Capitals a 21 runs win.

“Umran Malik is born in a Ferrari and he’s going to drive the Ferrari” – Tom Moody

Sunrisers Hyderabad coach Tom Moody was all praise for Umran Malik. The right-arm pacer has been a key performer for the franchise this season. He has picked 15 wickets in 10 matches, at an average of 22.60 so far.

Speaking to the Espncricinfo, Tom Moody exclaimed, that the pacer is born to bowl fast. He said, “I don’t think he’ll ever be a line-and-length bowler. He’s born in a Ferrari and he’s going to drive the Ferrari (laughs).”

Tom Moody further added, that Umran Malik has developed over the years as a better pacer, and requires the right guidance for the future.

“He (Umran), like any fast bowler, will have his challenges, with injuries or whatever else, but the knowledge around managing fast bowlers and managing their aggression as they develop in their early years is a lot better now, so it’s a case of making sure he’s getting the right guidance, the right mentoring, and that he’s surrounded by key people who don’t overcomplicate the process,” Tom Moody said.
