This surpasses Sachin Tendulkar’s previous record of 673 runs in the 2003 World Cup in South Africa. Analyzing Kohli’s showings in ODI ICC event finals, he contributed a crucial 35 runs off 49 balls in the 2011 World Cup final against Sri Lanka at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium.

In pursuit of 275 runs, India faced early setbacks with dismissals of Virender Sehwag (0) and Tendulkar (18) by Lasith Malinga.

Kohli and Gautam Gambhir (97 off 122) formed an essential partnership, contributing 83 runs for the third wicket in the 2011 World Cup final against Sri Lanka. India secured victory by six wickets, with MS Dhoni playing a captain’s innings of 91* in 79 balls.

After not reaching the finals in the 2015 and 2019 ODI World Cup editions, Sunday’s final will mark Kohli’s second appearance in the pinnacle match of a Men’s ODI World Cup.
