The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 Qualifier 2 between the Gujarat Titans (GT) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) is scheduled to be played at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur on Friday, May 29. However, weather forecasts suggest that rain could affect the crucial knockout encounter.
The ongoing season has already seen several rain-related disruptions, including the match between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Punjab Kings (PBKS), which was abandoned without a single ball being bowled. With forecasts indicating a 40 per cent chance of evening showers, there remains a possibility that the Qualifier 2 fixture may not produce a result.
As per IPL regulations, the team that finished higher in the league standings gets the advantage if a playoff match is washed out. Therefore, if weather conditions prevent the completion of a minimum five-over contest for both sides before the cut-off time, Gujarat Titans will advance directly to the IPL 2026 final, where they will take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).
“If conditions do not permit a Super Over, or subsequent Super Overs within the time available to determine the winner as described in Appendix F then the team which, at the end of the relevant regular Season, finished in the higher position in the League table (in accordance with clause 16.10 above) will be deemed the winner of the relevant play-off match,” IPL 2026 Match Playing Conditions mention.
Gujarat Titans ended the league stage in second place on the points table with 18 points, whereas Rajasthan Royals secured fourth position after accumulating 16 points.
GT Hold Dominant 7-3 Edge Over RR in IPL Rivalry
The Shubman Gill-led Gujarat Titans have enjoyed the upper hand in their rivalry with Rajasthan Royals, having won seven of the 10 matches played between the two sides. Both teams secured one victory each during the league stage this season, with GT claiming a commanding 77-run win in their latest encounter at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.
However, Rajasthan Royals enter the contest with confidence after registering three successive victories. In contrast, Gujarat Titans head into the match after suffering a heavy defeat to defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Qualifier 1 at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala.
