“What’s Our Plan For The Auction?”- Nathan Lyon’s IPL Question To Rishabh Pant Heard On Stump Mic During 1st BGT Test

Veteran Australian spinner Nathan Lyon playfully teased Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant about the upcoming 2025 IPL mega auction during Day 1 of the first Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test in Perth. The auction is set to take place on November 24 and 25 in Jeddah.

Pant returns to the auction pool for the first time since his U-19 days after being released by the Delhi Capitals following the 2024 season. The dynamic batter, part of the marquee set with a base price of ₹2 crore, is expected to attract intense bidding.

Lyon, meanwhile, surprised many by entering the auction pool but did not make the final shortlist of 574 players available for bidding. Nathan Lyon asked as he walked to his fielding spot:

“Where we going in the auction?”

Pant further replied with a smile:

“No idea”

Rishabh Pant leads Team India’s scoring in the first innings

Pant was called to the crease in the 17th over after a top-order collapse triggered by the Australian quicks. Since then, he has anchored the innings while witnessing the dismissals of Dhruv Jurel, KL Rahul, and Washington Sundar at the other end.

The duel between Rishabh Pant and Nathan Lyon has been a highlight in the early stages of the Perth Test. Pant has scored a boundary off Lyon and is currently on 30 from 63 balls. Lyon has struggled in his opening spell, conceding 23 runs in his first five overs.

Nitish Kumar Reddy added to the pressure with a series of reverse sweeps, helping India cross the 100-run mark.
