Indian cricket legend Virat Kohli is currently struggling with form, having recorded his second consecutive duck in the ongoing ODI series against Australia. The right-handed batsman was dismissed without scoring in both Perth and Adelaide, marking a difficult return to international cricket. Kohli, however, is no stranger to such slumps, having faced a prolonged dry spell after the COVID-19 break.
During this period, he had to wait a long time for his 71st international century, struggling for consistency and impact across formats. A notable low point came during the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL), where he played solely as a batter after stepping down from captaincy. In 16 matches, he scored just 341 runs at an average of 22.73 with a strike rate of 115.99.
That season also saw him record three golden ducks, including two consecutive dismissals midway through the campaign. Virat Kohli was dismissed at point off Dushmantha Chameera’s bowling against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), and in the following match, he fell to Marco Jansen as RCB were bowled out for just 68 in the first innings.
His struggles continued in the next game, scoring only nine runs off 10 balls against the Rajasthan Royals (RR), raising questions about his form. Kohli’s third duck of the season came later against SRH in the reverse fixture towards the end of the tournament.
“‘I’ve Seen It All In Cricket’ – Virat Kohli Reacts To Consecutive Ducks In IPL 2022
Virat Kohli had humorously remarked about his string of ducks in IPL 2022, saying he felt powerless at that point. Since then, however, he has avoided being dismissed for a duck, maintaining this streak for three full seasons.
“First-ball ducks. After the second one (duck), I actually realised what It feels like to be like you (Mr Nags character), absolutely helpless. It hasn’t happened to me ever in my career, I think . I have seen everything now. It’s been so long, I have seen everything in this game,” Kohli had said about his ducks on RCB Insider (via India Today).
