The public fallout between Virat Kohli and BCCI captain Sourav Ganguly is one of the most-debated sagas in the history of Indian cricket. Following Kohli’s removal as the ODI skipper, Ganguly had claimed that he had personally called Kohli about the decision and earlier requested him not to relinquish captaincy in the T20 format.
However, Kohli in what can be called as an explosive press conference, revealed that he was contacted only an hour before the selection of the Test team and was informed in the end that he was being removed as ODI captain.
Since then, Sourav Ganguly has kept mum and has not spoken about this publicly. However, not long ago, Ganguly and Virat Kohli shared a great bond and had openly praised each other. The former Indian cricketer had called Kohli one of his favourite captains in world cricket a few years back. Speaking at a promotional event, Ganguly had said:
“Virat is one of my favourite captains at the present moment. He is a terrific player. In his short career so far he has done wonders for the country. Someone who when I look at him on the field is going to raise the value of the Indian cricket with his intensity, fighting spirit and hunger to win.”
“You could see it on his face when he walks out to bat, or captain India he wants to be the best. The country needs him at the moment and I think he is great addition to Indian cricket,” added Ganguly.
Speaking about the current scenario, Virat Kohli, who will lead India in the three-match Test series against South Africa, has kickstarted the preparations. He has so far looked in good mood and will be desperate to score the 71st century that has eluded him for 2 years.
