Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra was all praise for England cricketer Joe Root. He expressed that the veteran batter has left the rest of the ‘Fab four’ behind in red-ball cricket.

Joe Root has been in phenomenal form in Test cricket in the last few years. He averages 51, scoring 663 runs in seven test matches this year. In the ongoing Test series against New Zealand, Joe Root is the second leading run-getter. He has already slammed two centuries in two matches in the series.

On Wednesday, the former England skipper replaced Australia’s Marnus Labuschagne at the top of the ICC men’s Test rankings. He recently became the only the second England batter to score more than 10,000 Test runs. Praising Joe Root in a video on YouTube, Aakash Chopra highlighted his brilliant performance.

The former cricketer also pointed out the contrasting careers of Joe Root and the other part of the ‘Fab Four’ in the last couple of years in test matches. He said:

“Joe Root has reached mount 10,000 and he has been absolutely phenomenal. When Virat Kohli was on 27 Test centuries, he was on 17. He has reached 27 from 17, has crossed the 10,000-run mark.”

“The rest of the Fab Four are stuck where they were there earlier, whether it is Steve Smith or Kane Williamson, no one has added even one century since then and he has hit ten,” added Aakash.

“You have to admit that Joe Root is the best Test batter in the world”: Aakash Chopra

Aakash Chopra further termed Joe Root as the “best test matter in the world” at the moment. He added that nobody else comes close to the English cricketer. Aakash also pointed out that Joe Root’s majority of runs have come at home, in England, where is it tough to bat. The former India cricketer stated:

“At this moment, you have to admit that Joe Root is the best Test batter in the world, there is nobody who is coming close. Yes, there are other fabulous players in the Fab Four but if you see the performance of the last one-and-a-half to two years, he is way above everybody else.
“Root is unbreakable and the spirits of the ones in front of him are down. He is brilliant and outstanding. He scores so many runs in England, where batting is not easy, first innings, second innings, first Test, second Test, India, Sri Lanka – he scores runs everywhere,” he added.
