“Whenever We Get A Chance, We Go On The Side And Chat For Sometime” – MS Dhoni Discusses His Relationship With Virat Kohli

Former Indian cricket captain MS Dhoni expressed how he has fun in his relationship with star batsman Virat Kohli both on the ground and off it. The two are arguably the most recognisable names in Indian cricket, if not world cricket, of this era.

Although Dhoni is ranked 11th among players with 10,773 runs scored so far, Kohli ranks number 3 on the ODI scoring chart with close to 14,000 runs. Kohli made his international debut for India under Dhoni’s captaincy in Sri Lanka in 2008 and they played together for over a decade.

However, as his career progressed towards its twilight years, Kohli took over the reins. In response to a question on how their relationship had been over the years, Dhoni shared:

“We have been colleagues who played for India for a very long time. He (Kohli) has been amongst the best when it comes to world cricket. And the fact that I could bat a lot with him during the middle overs was a lot of fun because we used to take a lot of twos and threes in the game, so it has always been fun.”

“It’s not like we meet very often, but whenever we get a chance, we make sure that we go on the side and chat for sometime, we’ll talk about what is going on, so that is ourerelationship.”

Here is a video of Dhoni sharing about his bond with Kohli:

Under the captaincy of Dhoni, India clinched the ICC trophies of 2011 ODI World Cup and 2013 Champions Trophy with Kohli being crucial in both matches. The IPL rivalry between the two players has always been friendly considering their fierce matches between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).

MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli last played together for India during the 2019 ODI World Cup

In England, during the World Cup 2019 ODI matches, India’s heart-wrenching goodbye to MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli took place. Wherein, the captain was Virat Kohli and the wicketkeeper MS Dhoni. In the league stages, Men in Blue stormed through finishing top on the table.

However, they lost in the semi-final to New Zealand by an agonizing 18 runs. This became the last of Dhoni’s game for India as he announced his retirement from international cricket a year later. Since then both these cricketers have been engaged in intense and fierce contests within IPL playing CSK-RCB matches to date.
