Jeffrey Vandersay is a cricketer from Sri Lanka representing his country on the international stage. He was born in Wattala, Sri Lanka on 5th February 1990 and is an alumnus of Wesley College, Colombo. Vandersay bowls with the right arm using the leg break technique and bats from the tail end with right-handedness. He stands at 5 ft 7 inches giving him small stature. As such he brings variation to Sri Lankan bowling attack while at the same time establishing himself as an accomplished leg-spinner.
Vandersay has played for Sri Lanka in numerous international cricket formats due to his cricket career. His distinctive style of bowling alongside his batting skill set have made him important to the team. Despite being small in size Vandersay has proven himself to be one talented cricketer with significant impact on the game.
Jeffrey Vandersay Career:
In June 2015, Vandersay the spinner felt the taste of international cricket when Sri Lanka played a tour match against Pakistan. Pakistan was his very first T20I match for which he bowled 4 overs and confiscated 25 while not having any wickets to his name. Subsequently, on December 28, 2015, Vandersay was promoted to the senior level playing his first One Day International match against New Zealand.
In that particular match, he failed to put brakes on aggressive Martin Guptill and went for 34 runs in two overs. Vandersay was served in the year 2018 and according to that, he was banned for one year and his yearly contract was also charged 20%.
However, because of this he had to play domestic cricket and represented Galle and then Dambulla in various leagues. It was in this period that Vandersay reached a turning point in his career when he made the Sri Lanka 2019 Cricket World Cup team. Based on the options and challenges that come along with talent development, in this case, Vandersay’s cricketing, his development can be regarded as a watered course.
