It is here where Kusal Perera made a name for himself as someone who relied on unfaltering performance even as an attacker who had just landed from nowhere to score runs.
International Career
Perera commenced his Test career against India in Colombo where he recorded twin fifties; he thereby became just the second Sri Lankan cricketer to register two half centuries on debut. His T20I career commenced with the first match against Australia during January 2013 where he scored 33 runs off 22 deliveries.
In the second ODI played against Pakistan (in 2015), he made a 17-ball 50 which matched that of his role model Sanath Jayasuriya. In fact, Perera was a fundamental component in the team that won ICC World T20 Championships held in 2014. Furthermore, his performance made him Sri Lanka’s top run scorer at the 2019 World Cup through which he achieved three fifties.
