Former Indian skipper and legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar is considered the “God of cricket” all over the world by cricket fans. He has had an astonishing career across formats for Team India and is regarded as the greatest batter the world has ever seen. Over the years, the right-handed batter’s impact on the game worldwide is hailed as second to none by pundits and fans.
Sachin Tendulkar took up cricket at a very early age and made a name for himself as a child prodigy in Mumbai cricket. At the age of 15, he was selected to represent Bombay in the Ranji Trophy, India’s premier domestic first-class cricket tournament, for the 1987–88 season. He slammed a century in the game and became the youngest Indian to score a century on debut in first-class cricket. His 664-run stand with Vinod Kambli during a Lord Harris Shield inter-school game made the world take cognizance of his batting talent.
In 1989, at the age of 16, Sachin Tendulkar made his debut for Team India against Pakistan in Karachi. He couldn’t get many runs in the match. However, during a 20-over exhibition game in Peshawar later, the Mumbai batter made 53 runs off 18 balls. He scored 27 of those runs against leg-spinner Abdul Qadir, in an over. Since then Sachin’s career went through several up and downs, however, he finished as the greatest ever.
The “Desert Storm”
Among his most loved knocks is the “Desert Strom” against Australia in the 1998 Coca-Cola cup in Sharjah. The knock is called so because the match was interrupted by a desert storm. Tendulkar scored 143 runs off 131 deliveries. The bowling attack comprised the likes of Shane Warne, Michael Kasprowicz, and Damien Fleming. The match was extremely important for India to seal their position as Australia’s opponents in the final of the tournament. India couldn’t win the game, but Tendulkar’s knock was etched in gold in the history books.
Sachin Tendulkar’s record
Over a career spanning close to 24 years, Sachin Tendulkar scored 15921 Test runs in 200 matches, at an average of 53.8. He has 51 Test centuries to his name. In 463 ODIs, he has 49 centuries, scoring 18426. The ‘Master Blaster’ also is the first batter to have scored a double century in international cricket in ODIs. He just played a solitary T20I for India. On November 16, 2013, the Legend bid adieu to the sport. He played his final Test against West Indies at his home ground in Mumbai.
IPL career
Sachin Tendulkar was signed by the Mumbai Indians in the inaugural season of the Indian Premier league. He was made the Icon player and captain for his home side. In the 2010 edition, the Mumbai Indians batter scored 618 runs in 14 innings during the tournament. He broke Shaun Marsh’s record for most runs in an IPL season. He won the Player of the tournament and was also the Best batter and Best captain.
The right-handed batter scored his maiden Twenty20 hundred in 2011 against Kochi Tuskers Kerala. He played his last match for the franchise in the 2013 Champions Trophy. Overall, Sachin Tendulkar scored 2334 IPL runs in 78 matches for Mumbai Indians.

Sachin Tendulkar is the leading run-scorer in International cricket. In 664 matches, he has scored 34357 runs, with 100 centuries to his name. He is the only cricketer in the world who has 100 International centuries. The legendary cricketer is the fastest to 15000 Test runs and 18000 ODI runs. He also owns the record for Most Player of the series awards in International cricket. Tendulkar is second on the list of Most consecutive innings, 136* without a duck. In July 2019, he was inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame. The former Indian skipper was conferred the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award in 2014.
