Who Is Vaibhav Suryavanshi? Who Hit India’s Fastest U19 Test Century

At just 13 years old, Vaibhav Suryavanshi has already achieved what many seasoned cricketers dream of. On Monday, at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, Vaibhav made history by smashing the fastest hundred by an Indian in Under-19 Tests.

Fastest Hundred

Vaibhav’s incredible feat came in his maiden red-ball match for the India Under-19 team. His blistering hundred, marked by 14 boundaries and four towering sixes, left fans and pundits in awe. This 58-ball hundred is second only to Moeen Ali’s 56-ball century for England Under-19s in 2005.

India’s response to Australia’s first innings total of 293 was nothing short of spectacular, and Vaibhav’s aggressive approach was the highlight. His 104 off just 62 deliveries was a masterclass in fearless and dynamic batting. Unfortunately, he was run out, but by then, the damage had already been done.

Ranji trophy debut

Vaibhav’s journey began much earlier than most cricketers. At just 12 years old, he made his debut in the prestigious Ranji Trophy, representing Bihar. His debut performance saw him surpass the records of Indian legends Sachin Tendulkar and Yuvraj Singh, making him one of the youngest players to debut in India’s first-class domestic competition.

In the 2024 season, Vaibhav played two first-class matches for Bihar against Mumbai and Chhattisgarh. Although he only managed to score 31 runs, his debut at such a young age speaks volumes about his talent and potential.

Before his Ranji Trophy debut, Vaibhav had already made a name for himself in age-group cricket. His performances in the Quadrangular Under-19 series for India B and the Vinod Mankad Trophy were outstanding.

In the Quadrangular series, Vaibhav scored 177 runs in six innings, including two half-centuries. His consistency and ability to score in high-pressure situations made him one of the standout performers in the tournament.

Vaibhav’s performance in the Vinod Mankad Trophy was another major milestone. With 393 runs from five matches at an average of 78.60, he finished as the eighth-best run scorer in the tournament. His run-scoring ability at such a young age further solidified his reputation as a prodigious talent.

Support from his father

Vaibhav’s early success can be attributed to the unwavering support and guidance from his father, Sanjeev Suryavanshi. His father, who is deeply passionate about cricket, played a crucial role in shaping Vaibhav’s career from the very beginning.

With such an impressive start to his career, the future looks incredibly bright for Vaibhav Suryavanshi. His ability to dominate at both the age-group and first-class levels at such a young age is a testament to his talent and potential.
