Why Adam Zampa’s Run-out Attempt At Non-striker’s End Was Unsuccessful

ACA Chief

During Tuesday’s ongoing Big Bash League 2022-23 rivalry match against the Renegades, Melbourne Stars skipper Adam Zampa attempted a botched run-out at non-end, striker’s but Tom Rogers made it through (January 4). The renowned Australian spinner, who was bowling the penultimate over, almost finished his action when he saw Rogers enter the crease too early and removed the bails.

Angered, Rogers began to make his way towards the pavilion as the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) crowd began to jeer Zampa for his bad sportsmanship. At the striker’s end, Zampa had a smile on his face while Mackenzie Harvey was shaking his head in bewilderment. The wicket was called out by officials when they reviewed the reaction because Zampa’s bowling arm was not vertical.

According to the rules, the non-striker is subject to being run out if he leaves the field at any point between the time the ball enters play and the time the bowler is supposed to release the ball. However, the umpire will decide whether to call a run-out if the ball is not delivered.

Adam Zampa plays a key role for his side

Adam Zampa bowled a strong stint, taking out Akeal Hosein and giving up only 19 runs. While bowling first, Trent Boult and Luke Wood each got two wickets to limit the Renegades to just 141/7. Shaun Marsh, Martin Guptill, and Mackenzie Harvey each hit 32 runs for the Renegades, but the Stars’ bowlers displayed remarkable all-around performance.

However, Tom Rogers gave the Renegades an incredible start after surviving a run-out from Zampa. On the second pitch of the innings, he bowled out Joe Clarke, and in the third over, he added two more wickets to the Stars’ top-order wobble. During his second spell, he went on to take two more wickets, giving up just 16 runs while finishing with five wickets.
