Players donned black armbands during the IPL 2026 clash between defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Mumbai Indians (MI) at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday, April 12. Both teams also observed a minute’s silence to pay tribute to her legacy.
The gesture honored legendary singer Asha Bhosle, who passed away earlier today in Mumbai at the age of 92.

According to ANI, she had been battling several health complications and passed away due to multiple organ failure. Asha Bhosle, the sister of iconic singer Lata Mangeshkar, breathed her last at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai. Her final rites are scheduled to take place at Shivaji Park at 4 pm on Monday, April 13. She is survived by her son Anand and her grandchildren.
Born in 1933, Bhosle started her musical journey in the 1940s and went on to record more than 7,000 songs for Hindi films. In total, she lent her voice to over 11,000 songs in 20 languages, spanning genres from classical and folk to pop.
In recognition of her immense contribution, she received prestigious honors such as the Dadasaheb Phalke Award and Padma Vibhushan, and also held a Guinness World Record. Her demise marks the end of a remarkable era in Indian music history.
During her illustrious career, Asha Bhosle even collaborated with Australian cricketer Brett Lee on the song “You’re the One” in 2006, which gained widespread popularity online. Interestingly, her favourite cricketer was Sachin Tendulkar.

RCB icon and former India skipper Virat Kohli, the leading run-scorer in IPL history, shared his condolences with fans while expressing gratitude for her remarkable legacy. The 37-year-old took to his Instagram story to write:
“Rest in peace, Asha Bhosle ji. Your voice touched millions and will live on forever in our hearts. Om Shanti (folded hands emoji).”
Anushka Sharma, Kohli’s wife and a Bollywood actor, also shared a heartfelt message on her Instagram story, writing:
