“Why Did You Let Passengers Board?” – Australian Star Slams Air India Over Pilot Shortage

Former Australian cricketer David Warner didn’t hold back in criticizing Air India after passengers, including himself, faced a long delay due to the absence of pilots on Saturday, March 22. Warner and others boarded their flight in New Delhi but were left waiting for hours without a crew to operate the aircraft.

He later took to social media to voice his frustration, directly tagging the airline in his post.

“We’ve boarded a plane with no pilots and waiting on the plane for hours. Why would you board passengers knowing that you have no pilots for the flight?” he wrote on X.

Air India replied to Warner, explaining the reasons behind the delay.

“Dear Mr. Warner, today’s challenging weather in Bengaluru caused diversions and delays across all airlines. The crew operating your flight was held up on an earlier assignment affected by these disruptions, which led to a delay in departure. We appreciate your patience and thank you for choosing to fly with us,” they wrote on X.

Warner is said to have arrived in Hyderabad for the trailer launch of his debut Indian film, the Telugu movie ‘Robinhood’.

David Warner remained unsold in the IPL 2025 auction

David Warner has been one of the IPL’s greatest players, showcasing his brilliance from the tournament’s second season in 2009 until 2024. However, the 38-year-old went unsold in the 2025 IPL auction after setting his base price at ₹2 crore.

Warner struggled in his last season with the Delhi Capitals (DC), managing only 168 runs at an average of 21 across eight matches. The veteran batter also announced his retirement from all formats of international cricket following Australia’s disappointing exit from the 2024 T20 World Cup.

Despite his recent struggles, Warner remains the fourth-highest run-scorer in IPL history, amassing 6,565 runs in 184 matches, including four centuries and 62 half-centuries. However, his most iconic IPL achievement remains leading SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) to their maiden title in 2016 as captain.
