Phil Salt becomes 3rd England batter to score century in T20I format

The explosive right-handed batter Phil Salt became the list of England batters to score a century in the shorter format. He achieved the feat during the 3rd T20I match played at Grenada on 16th December 2023.

Chasing down massive target of 223 runs, Phil Salt showed intent right from the word go putting pressure on the West Indies bowlers. He looked in ominous touch keeping the momentum going for England in first six overs. Buttler and Salt hit shots with ease not allowing them to settle. Salt reached fifty off just 26 balls and maintained the momentum for England. Buttler and Salt added 115 runs for opening wicket laying a strong foundation. Will Jacks was dismissed the next over to leave England on backfoot.

Liam Livingstone looked in superb touch putting pressure on West Indies bowlers. Salt looked calm and kept the momentum going for England team and showed intent with run rate climbing. Salt reached century off 51 deliveries. The match went right down the wire as Harry Brook smashed 21 runs in final over to help England team chase down target with 1 ball to spare.

Phil Salt remained not out on 109 off 56 deliveries with 4 fours and 9 sixes at a strike rate of 194.64. It was a superb run chase by England team to keep the 5 match T20I series alive. For his match winning knock, Phil Salt was named the player of the match award.

Phil Salt becomes the latest England batter to score a century in the T20I format. Salt has played 19 T20I matches (18 innings) with 482 runs including 1 century and 2 half-centuries at a strike rate of 157.52.

Alex Hales was the first England batter to score a century in T20I format. He achieved this feat with an unbeaten 116 off 64 balls against Sri Lanka in T20 World Cup at Chattogram on 27th March 2014.

Liam Livingstone scored a brilliant 103 off 46 balls against Pakistan at Trent Bridge, Nottingham on 16th July 2021. Jos Buttler made superb century during the T20 World Cup in Sharjah Cricket Stadium on 1st November 2021.
