Team India skipper Rohit Sharma continued his terrific run in the ongoing Test series against West Indies. He completed a quick-fire fifty in the first session of the second Test on Thursday, July 20 at Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain in Trinidad. The right-handed batter surpassed a brilliant milestone in the process.

Rohit Sharma opened the innings along with Yashasvi Jaiswal as West Indies won the toss and asked India to bat first. He slammed a waist-high delivery by Kemar Roach for a six over deep square leg to unleash an attack on the opposition bowlers. He took them on early in the innings, keeping the scoreboard running.

In the nineteenth over, Kemar Roach bowled another back-of-a-length delivery to Rohit Sharma. It was an easy pick for the Indian skipper, who pulled the ball and deposited it over deep square leg for another six. He brought up his fifty with that shot, off just 74 deliveries. During the course of the first session, Rohit Sharma completed 2000 runs as a Test opener for India. At the end of the session, he was unbeaten on 63 runs.

Rohit Sharma became the second-fastest Indian opener to reach 2000 runs. He reached the landmark in his 40th Test innings as an opener. Virender Sehwag tops the list, going past the 2000 runs landmark in 39 Test innings. The Mumbai batter also became the first Indian batter (10th overall) to get to 2000 runs in the World Test Championships.
