The breakthrough occurred during the 52nd over of West Indies’ innings when Mukesh dismissed Kirk McKenzie, an accomplished left-handed batter.

McKenzie was steadily holding his ground at 33 runs off 95 balls when he decided to take on a slightly short delivery from Mukesh.

Unfortunately for McKenzie, the ball moved unexpectedly, resulting in a top-edge that was easily caught by wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan.

With this crucial wicket, India claimed their second success of the innings, causing the hosts to be at 117/2. However, the game was interrupted by a heavy drizzle shortly after, leading both teams to retreat to the pavilions.

West Indies were trailing by 321 runs in their pursuit of India’s formidable total of 438, built on the solid performances of Virat Kohli (121 off 206 balls) and Rohit Sharma (80 off 143 balls).

Prior to this, Ravindra Jadeja had made his presence felt by dismissing West Indies’ opener, Tangerine Chanderpaul, using clever tactics to force him into a hasty shot outside the off-stump, which ended in an edge to Ravichandran Ashwin at third man.

Mukesh Kumar’s entry into Test cricket marked a significant moment for India as he became the 308th player to don the Test cap for the nation.

Despite not being on the field during the initial two days, he had an emotional conversation with his mother after his debut, who expressed her heartfelt wishes for his success and progress in his cricketing journey.

Having displayed his bowling prowess in domestic cricket with 149 wickets in 39 first-class matches at an impressive average of 21.55, Mukesh Kumar is eager to add more wickets to his tally during the ongoing Test series against West Indies.
