India’s ace pacer Mohammed Siraj has been sent back home ahead of the One-day international series against West Indies starting from 27th July 2023. He was included in the ODI squad for the series against West Indies but keeping in the mind Asia Cup and World Cup, but he has been sent back home along with R Ashwin, Navdeep Saini, Ajinkya Rahane, and KS Bharat.
Siraj was expected to lead the attack that includes Jaydev Unadkat, Shardul Thakur, Umran Malik, Mukesh Kumar and all-rounder Hardik Pandya. Siraj has been non-stop cricket and would be an ideal time to rest the ace pace bowler. He picked 7 wickets in the two Test matches including his best figures of 5 for 60 in the first innings of the 2nd Test match played at Port of Spain, Trinidad. He was named the Player of the Match award for his brilliant performance.
However, the Indian Team has a busy schedule ahead of the World Cup 2023. They will play the Asia Cup to be played in Sri Lanka, followed by 3 match ODI Series against Australia at home before playing the prestigious World Cup at home.
Mohammed Siraj’s performance in 2023
Mohammed Siraj has been a consistent performer for the Indian team in international cricket for 2023. His last home assignment was against Australia at home in March 2023. Since the start of 2022, Siraj has picked 43 wickets which is the most by any bowler in One-day international cricket.
Siraj was ranked the number 1 bowler in One-day international cricket after his consistent performance in the home series against Sri Lanka and New Zealand this year. During the home ODI series against Australia, Siraj picked 5 wickets which was the most by an Indian and second overall.
The pace bowler looked impressive in the IPL 2023 for Royal Challengers Bangalore. He picked up 19 wickets from 14 matches including but Faf du Plessis-led side could not qualify for the playoffs after losing to Gujarat Titans in the final league game.
After the IPL, Siraj took part in the ICC World Test Championship finals against Australia in London. He did a great job by picking 4 wickets during the 1st innings where the Aussies posted 469.
