Will Pucovski finally lived his dream of playing Test cricket for his country as he made his debut at the SCG against India. He played a patient knock of 62 from 110 balls thereby proving his mettle at the international level. After the game in the virtual presser, the youngster opened up on his feeling after playing his first Test match and also facing Ravichandran Ashwin. Pucovski added a 100-run stand with Marnus Labuschgane before getting dismissed by Navdeep Saini to give his first wicket.

Speaking in the virtual presser he first spoke about his feelings on playing his first Test. He said it took a lot of hard work and he has been through the hard yards for this moment. Pucovski was in the initial Australian Test squad but missed out on the first two Tests after coping up a blow in the warm-up games.

“It was a pretty incredible experience. It’s meant everything to be honest, that I am putting in a lot of hard yards on and off the field, hopeful that this day would come and it was a very special day,” Pucovski said.

Ashwin is a Unique Bowler: Will Pucovski

He further said that among all the Indian bowlers he faced, Ashwin was the most challenging one he came up against.

“They (Indian bowlers) are all very good. Playing your first game, I would say Ashwin, probably, is the one who is the most unique in a way. Obviously (Jasprit) Bumrah has his unique action but Ashwin just with his different variations and how he uses the same to sort of bowl. But yes, his little-different variations, was something that I hadn’t really experienced before, so that was quite challenging,” said Pucovski.

Will Pucovski became the youngest Australian cricketer to score a fifty on Test debut. He added a 100-run stand with Marnus Labuschagne (67*) to get his team to a position of strength.

“It was a very nice batting wicket. I am very hopeful that with the amount of batting in the team now and what we have got to come, we can post a really good total and then with the world-class attack that we have put them (India) under the pump, hopefully, dominate the game,” he concluded saying.
