Right-arm off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has opened up about chances of India’s qualification in the semi-finals of T20 World Cup 2021. Ashwin shared his thoughts during the pre-match Press Conference of India vs Scotland game scheduled to be played on Friday.
The 35-year old talked about how the Indian team is preparing for the games against Scotland and Namibia. Ashwin stated that the side would look to control the controllable as the results of other fixtures are not in their hand.
“The discussion that we need to have is about how we are going to go about the couple of games we have left. Everyone is planning and wanting to go on a real high for the last two games. The rest of it is not in our control, we just have our fingers crossed,” said Ashwin.
I really wish if we could provide any physio support to Mujeeb: Ravichandran Ashwin
For India to reach the semi-finals, it is essential that New Zealand loses to at least one of Namibia or Afghanistan. Keeping that in mind, Ravichandran Ashwin wished the Afghanistan team luck for their upcoming game against New Zealand.
He also jokingly said that it would be great if some physio assistance can be arranged for injured Afghan Spinner Mujeeb-Ur-Rahman so that he can strengthen Afghanistan’s bowling even more against the Kiwis.
“I really wish if we could provide any physio support to Mujeeb, we can get him on the field. That is all we can hope for,” Ashwin said on a lighter note.
In the two matches he has played in the tournament so far, Mujeeb has been exceptional. He has picked six wickets at an economy of 4.25, which includes a fifer against Scotland. So one can understand why Ashwin and even Indian fans want him back in the Playing XI.
