WIvIND : Virat Kohli’s unbeaten 111 seal 3-1 series win

The Indian team produced a dominant performance to win the 5th ODI by 8 wickets at Sabina Park, Jamaica last night. After winning the toss, West Indies batsmen could only score 205 while India chase down the target with ease.

West Indies captain Jason Holder won the toss and elected to bat at Sabina Park, Jamaica. Evin Lewis and Kyle Hope gave the team a good start putting 39 runs in 8.2 overs. Hardik Pandya took the wicket of Evin Lewis for 9 runs. At the end of first 10 overs, West Indies scored 49 runs for 1 wicket.

Kyle Hope looked in great touch hitting boundaries with ease. Both Kyle Hope and Shai Hope added 37 runs before Kyle was played a poor shot. The next ball Roston Chase was dismissed by Umesh Yadav to leave West Indies at 76 for 3. The Indian spinners bowled tight line and lengths not allowing Jason Mohammed and Shai Hope to score runs with ease.  Jason Mohammed was dismissed by Kedar Jadhav for 16 runs. It was a great display of bowling by Indian spinners who stifled the West Indies batsmen. Ravindra Jadeja completed his 10 overs giving away 27 runs.

Shai Hope completed his fifty in 94 balls while Captain Jason Holder looked in aggressive mood. Both of them put on 48 runs for the fifth wicket before Holder was dismissed by Mohammed Shami for 36. Shai Hope was also dismissed trying to hit a big shot for 51. In space of 5 runs, West Indies lost Ashley Nurse for 0 to leave West Indies at 171 for 7 in the 44th over. Roman Powell scored vital runs scoring 31 runs before being dismissed off the second last ball.

West Indies ended the innings on 205 for 9 in 50 overs. Umesh Yadav and Mohammed Shami were the pick of the bowlers.

Chasing 206, the Indian team lost an early wicket of Shikhar Dhawan in the very first over itself. Virat Kohli and Rahane played attacking strokes putting pressure on West Indies bowlers. At the end of first 10 overs, India scored 50 runs. After the power play overs both batsmen added 79 runs as Rahane was dismissed for 39.

Virat Kohli completed his fifty in 67 balls with good strokeplay. Dinesh Karthik also played with positive intent and made the batting look easy. Kohli broke the record of Sachin Tendulkar with most tons in ODI chases. He remained not out on 111 while Dinesh Karthik scored his 50 in 52 balls. India won the match by 8 wickets with 79 balls to spare.

Rahane was named as the man of series with 336 runs in 5 matches.

The one off T20 match will be played at Sabina Park, Jamacia on 9th July.
