One of the finest modern-day batswomen, Meg Lanning was at his exceptional best and continued her dominance in the opening T20I against England as a part of the multi-format Ashes. She struck a whirlwind 133 of just 36 deliveries as Australia continued their exceptional run in the multi-format Ashes and defeated England by 93 runs in the opening T20I.
The former Australian skipper broke her previous record when she had scored a brilliant 126. She had earlier jointly held the record with 19-year-old Netherlands opener Sterre Kalis. Lanning also managed to convert his start into a big one during the course of the Ashes. Before this stupendous century, Lanning had struck 16, 18, 69, 57 and 21 in the multi-format Ashes.
Lanning’s innings was studded with 17 fours and 7 sixes as her knock of 133 of 63 deliveries took Australia to a daunting score of 226/3 in their allotted 20 overs in Chelmsford. England couldn’t make a mark in the chase as they could only manage 133/9 in their 20 overs, thus handing Australia a 93 runs victory. Lanning’s side has already taken a 10-2 lead on points in the multi-format Ashes.

Both the teams are slated to play two more T20 games. While the next will be played at Hove on Sunday, the last one will be played in Bristol on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Lanning was very impressed with the way she struck the ball.
“I hit the ball today as well as I have for a long time, that”s what T20 does, you are out there and swing the bat a little bit and hope for the best at times,” she said. “To be honest me and Beth (Mooney), we just wanted to play good cricket shots and we got a good reward for that. It was a really good batting deck.
“I feel like I”ve been hitting the ball reasonably well without being able to play really freely and felt if I was able to stick at it long enough it would happen. Was nice to be able to cash in, some days you are on and you have to make the most of it.
“[I have been] a bit frustrated, I have big expectations and want to contribute all the time. I felt like I was getting starts but kept getting out and that was annoying me a fair bit. So when I got going today I was keen to keep putting the foot down and take the opportunity because it doesn”t come along very often,” she added.
