Thailand women’s cricket team created history as they reached the semi-finals of the ongoing Women’s Asia Cup 2022. They reached the top four after a washout between defending champions Bangladesh and the United Arab Emirates in the first match on October 11.

Thailand’s team performed brilliantly in the entire tournament. They started the tournament with a nine-wicket loss to Bangladesh and then lost to Sri Lanka by 49 runs in their second match.

They upset the apple cards as they defeated Pakistan in a low-scoring thriller with disciplined bowling restricting them to 116 for 5. Despite struggles, they won the match by four wickets with one ball to spare.

Thailand then proved too strong for UAE. Despite poor batting effort, Thailand bowlers never allowed UAE batters to score runs freely and won the match by 19 runs. It was another dominating performance as they defeated Malaysia by 50 runs. Thailand posted 115/5 and then restricted Malaysia to 65/8 as they increased their net run rate.

It was a disappointing performance by Thailand in their final league game against a strong Indian side. Thailand could only score 37 runs and lost the match by nine wickets.

Bangladesh bow out of the Women’s Asia Cup after a washout against the UAE

Bangladesh needed a win to qualify for the semi-finals stage. But due to heavy runs at Sylhet, the match was called off as both Bangladesh and UAE earned one point each.

Thailand have shown tremendous efforts in the entire tournament so far. Natthhakan Chantam is the leading runs scorer for Thailand with 116 runs from six matches with the best score of 61 against Pakistan. Chaiwai completes the list of top run-getter in the tournament so far. She made 106 runs so far from six matches with the best score of 37.

The left-handed spinner Tipatcha Putthawong is the leading wicket-taker for Thailand. She has picked up eight wickets from 6 matches at an economy of 4.96 runs per over. Thailand needs to play out of its skin if they have to defeat India in the semi-finals.
