World T20: South Africa all-rounder JP Duminy to miss West Indies game

World T20: South Africa all-rounder JP Duminy to miss West Indies game: Proteas all-rounder JP Duminy has been ruled out of the upcoming ICC World Twenty20 game against the West Indies on Friday (March 25) in Nagpur due to a hamstring injury.

Duminy pulled his left hamstring during the match against Afghanistan at the Wankhede when he chased the third ball of Afghanistan’s innings and had to go off the field. The exact length for his recovery is unknown but South Africa are hopeful of having him ready for their last group stage match against Sri Lanka on 28 March. Duminy has been in good form so far this competition, recording scores of 54* and 29*

The Nagpur pitch is expected to help the spinners again. The unavailability of Duminy is a big blow for South Africa as he was also a canny off-spinner apart from his batting skills. So far, South Africa have only fielded one specialist spinner in Imran Tahir but are likely to also look to the other spinner in their squad, Aaron Phangiso against West Indies.

The team manager, Mohammed Moosajee said: “The scans which were done yesterday confirmed our clinical suspicion of a hamstring strain which means that he will be ruled out of Friday”s game against the West Indies in Nagpur”.

When asked if there are thoughts of replacing Duminy in the squad, Moosajee dismissed those. “It”s still very premature,” he said.

“The plan is to try and get him ready for our last round-robin match against Sri Lanka in Delhi on Sunday. Our physiotherapist, Brandon Jackson, has already started with treatment and rehab but for now we will have to wait and see how he responds to the plan,” he added.
