After Australia postponed their forthcoming series against South Africa due to the pandemic, the race for the final two spots of the ICC World Test Championship has got more intense. With New Zealand already sealing one berth, India, England, and Australia race for another slot in the final scheduled to take place later this year.

Australia’s chance of making it to the summit clash is grim considering India’s superlative run at home where they face England in the four-match Test series starting from February 5 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

England also have slight chances of making it to the final of the inaugural edition of the ICC World Test Championship but India are the firm favourites to face New Zealand in the final. On the other hand, South Africa, Pakistan, and New Zealand have already bowed out of the tournament.

India, England, Australia race for a final spot in ICC World Test Championship

Australia have a slight chance of making it to the finals of the competition. If the forthcoming series between India and England is drawn or India win the series 1-0 or England wins 2-0, 2-1 then Australia progress through to the finals.

For England to qualify the result should be 3-0, 3-1, or 4-0 to play the final at the Lord’s Cricket Stadium later this year. New Zealand have already booked a berth in the finals. Joe Root & Co improved their position in the ICC World Test Championship points table beating Sri Lanka 2-0 but they face a monumental task ahead of them against the mighty Indians. However, they have taken one step closer beating India in the first Test by 227 runs at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.

On the other hand, India have to win the series by at least 2-1 in order to qualify. As of now, they are the favourites to qualify for the ICC World Test Championship final.
