WPL 2023: Mumbai-Ahmedabad To Play Season Opener, Tournament To Take Place At CCI And DY Patil

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has kicked off the preparations for the inaugural edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL). The first match of the tournament is likely to take place on Saturday, March 4 between Team Mumbai and Team Ahmedabad, according to a report by Cricbuzz. The auctions for the league are likely to take place on February 13 in Mumbai.

The BCCI recently announced the team owners, with IndiaWin Sports winning the bid for Team India, and Adani Sportsline winning for Team Ahmedabad. The Women’s Premier League 2023 edition is likely to take place entirely in Mumbai. The Cricket Club of India and DY Patil are likely to be the two venues for the tournament, reported Cricbuzz. The schedule of the league is likely to be out soon. Team Bengaluru will take on Team Delhi on March 5, in the second game. Ahmedabad is likely to play again on day two against Lucknow at the DY Patil Stadium.

Top-ranked team to directly qualify for final in 2023 WPL

According to the Cricbuzz report, three teams will make it to the playoffs of the 2023 Women’s Premier League. The top-ranked team will directly qualify for the final, which will take place on March 26 at the DY Patil Stadium. The second and the third-ranked teams will play the eliminator, which will be on March 24 at CCI. March 25 will be an off day for the teams. The league will have as many as five off days, with the first being on March 17, and then, March 18, 19, and March 22 and 23.
