UP Warriorz registered a vital win as they defeated table topper Mumbai Indians in a thrilling encounter played at DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai on 18 March 2023 in the ongoing WPL 2023.
Harmanpreet Kaur produced a stunning one-handed catch to dismiss Devika Vaidya at slips. The incident took place in the 2nd over as Kaur stretched taking a blinder and getting the early breakthrough for Mumbai Indians. After that, Alyssa Healy and Kiran Navgire were given a reprieve from Nat Sciver Brunt.

Issy Wong was introduced into the attack and got rid of UP captain Alyssa Healy via review. The umpire gave it not out but on review, it was overturned to out. Yastika Bhatia took another superb catch to dismiss Kiran Navgire, leaving UP Warriorz in trouble. Bhatia then dropped another catch off Tahila McGrath.
Tahila McGrath and Grace Harris showed intent in putting pressure on Mumbai Indian bowlers. Both batters looked comfortable keeping the scoreboard ticking. The New Zealand leg spinner Amelia Kerr got the much-needed breakthrough for MI dismissing McGrath with a simple return catch. McGrath and Harris added 44 runs for the 4th wicket. Grace Harris looked impressive putting pressure on Mumbai Indian bowlers.
Kerr struck again to dismiss dangerous Harris caught by Wong at long-on. Harris and Deepti Sharma added 34 runs for the 5th wicket. Sophie Ecclestone looked calm under pressure along with Deepti Sharma. Ecclestone held onto her nerves to hit a six to help UP Warriorz win the match by 5 wickets with 3 balls to spare. For her unbeaten 13 off 14 deliveries and 2 for 35 in 4 overs, Deepti Sharma was named the player of the match.
Mumbai Indians handed the first defeat
Mumbai Indians were handed their first defeat of WPL 2023. After being invited into bat by Alyssa Healy, Hayley Mathews looked in great touch smashing Grace Harris for 2 sixes in an over. Yastika Bhatia struggled with rhythm being bowled by Anjali Sarvani. Bhatia and Mathews added 30 runs for the opening wicket.
UP Warriorz bowlers kept it tight with discipline lines and lengths keeping pressure on MI batters. Apart from Harmanpreet Kaur’s 25, Issy Wong made a quickfire 32 off 19 deliveries but a superb bowling effort resulted in them restricting star-studded batting to just 127 all out. Sophie Ecclestone took 3 for 15 in 4 overs, Rajeshwari Gayakwad and Deepti Sharma took 2 wickets each while Anjali Sarvani grabbed 1 wicket.
