Mumbai Indians (MI) newcomer S Sajana has left a lasting impression in the ongoing WPL 2024 season. She struck a six with the only ball she faced, securing a dramatic victory for her team against the Delhi Capitals (DC) in Bengaluru on Friday, February 23.
In the final over, DC bowler Alice Capsey had 12 runs to defend. Despite taking two wickets and narrowing the requirement to five runs off the last ball, Sajana exhibited remarkable composure on the grand stage and delivered the decisive blow.
S Sajana confidently stepped forward and hit the ball over the long-on boundary, making the Mumbai Indians’ team very happy. She was so excited about the shot that she lifted her teammate, Amanjot Kaur, in celebration.
On the opposite end, Alice Capsey was on her knees, expressing disbelief. The video captures the intense drama on the final ball:

In the WPL 2023 season, Mumbai’s lower middle order wasn’t thoroughly challenged, creating a perception of heavy reliance on their star all-rounders. However, a victory where their batting depth was put to the test will significantly benefit them in the future.
Yastika Bhatia and Harmanpreet Kaur laid the foundation for MI’s pursuit
One of the primary reasons Mumbai Indians chose to chase was the expected dew that could make batting more favorable. Yastika Bhatia made a strong start in the pursuit of 172 runs, ensuring Mumbai didn’t suffer much from the early losses of star batters Hayley Matthews (0) and Nat Sciver-Brunt (19) during the powerplay.
Captain Harmanpreet Kaur partnered with Yastika, contributing to a 56-run stand for the third wicket, which solidified Mumbai’s pursuit. After Yastika’s dismissal at a commendable 57 off 45 balls, Harmanpreet took charge and brought her team close to victory.
The situation seemed bleak for Mumbai Indians after Harmanpreet’s departure at 55, but S Sajana, highly regarded, demonstrated her skills with a last-ball six. This marked Mumbai’s sixth consecutive victory in chases, and they haven’t faced a defeat in any WPL game when given a target by the opposition.
