WPL 2024: Alice Capsey Scored First Fifty In First Match Against Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians registered a thrilling 4 wicket in the opening game against Delhi Capitals at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru on 23rd February 2024. Mumbai Indians captain Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and decided to field first. It was not an ideal start as Shafali Varma was dismissed cheaply.

Alice Capsey looked cautious in the initial stages as Delhi Capitals scored 26 for 1 at the end of the first six overs. Capsey looked impressive with positive strokes by putting pressure on Mumbai Indians bowlers. Delhi Capitals took the first timeout at 63 for 1. After the timeout, Lanning was dismissed and caught by Sajana.

Lanning and Capsey added 64 runs for 2nd wicket. Capsey looked in sublime touch taking on Hayley Mathews with some lovely shots completing fifty off 36 balls. Capsey maintained the pressure with some big shots keeping momentum going for Delhi Capitals. The second timeout was taken as Delhi Capitals made 127 for 2. She impressed before being dismissed by Amelia Kerr in the 18th over.

Alice Capsey and Rodrigues added 74 runs for the 3rd wicket. Soon after Rodrigues fell with a stunning catch by Bhatia. Kapp hit some vital boundaries that helped Delhi Capitals post 171 for 5 in 20 overs. Alice Capsey took the charge against Mumbai Indians bowlers. She was given a reprieve dropped by Sajana. It was a sensational knock as Capsey hit 75 off 53 balls with 8 boundaries and 3 sixes that helped Delhi Capitals post a competitive total.

Capsey had a brilliant outing against Mumbai Indian bowlers that made the batting look easy keeping the scoreboard ticking. Rodrigues struggled initially before putting some pressure on Mumbai Indians’ bowling.

Mumbai Indians registered a thrilling 4-wicket win off the last delivery thanks to Sajana. Capsey was handed the 20th over and did a great job dismissing Pooja Vastkar. After being smashed for a six by Kaur, she dismissed her leaving MI needing 5 runs off the last delivery.

It was a great performance by Mumbai Indians as Harmanpreet Kaur and Yastika Bhatia scored half-centuries that laid a strong foundation to help the defending champions. Hayley was dismissed in the first over itself.
