After testing COVID positive twice, Wriddhiman Saha has tested negative on the third attempt. He was the only player from the Sunrisers Hyderabad camp to test positive. The match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians was postponed after Saha tested positive. Ultimately, the BCCI decided to suspend IPL 2021 on May 4 after consultation with the IPL governing council.

Meanwhile, the BCCI has said that the players selected for the WTC final and the subsequent England series need to test negative if they are to make it to the series. Both the men and the women squad will undergo quarantine for two weeks starting May 19. Both the Indian squads will assemble in Mumbai and are likely to fly out together on a charter flight to London on June 2.

Moreover, the two squads will travel to the UK through chartered flights which will be arranged by the BCCI. The support staff of both teams will accompany the players as well. The BCCI has arranged for all members – both the men’s and women’s squads – to get three negative tests before they board the flights to Mumbai. There will be further testing done at the team hotel in Mumbai before they board on the London flight.

Meanwhile, Wriddhiman Saha and Rishabh Pant are the two specialist keepers selected for the WTC final and the England series. Off late, Pant has been the first-choice keeper in the Indian playing XI. His keeping has grown progressively along with his batting as he showcased first against Australia and then against England.

Wriddhiman Saha, who contracted the COVID-19 virus during IPL 2021 stated that he was extremely scared during the initial days. His family also started to panic but Saha’s franchise took great care of the cricketers and things started to change gradually.
