Team India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has reiterated that the day he will lose patience to learn something new, he will stop playing cricket. He talks about his desire to do well no matter what the situation is and the hunger that keeps him going in the longest format of the game.

Ashwin, who is one of the best spinners India has ever produced, has picked up a staggering 409 wickets in 79* Test matches, at a commendable average of 24.69. He has 30 five-wicket hauls to his name, with a career-best of 7/59 coming at Indore against current No.1 Test team, New Zealand.

Ashwin, in a video tweeted by the ICC, talks about always trying to improve and never settling for what he has done on the field. He mentions that victories are just the result of meticulous planning and so he doesn’t celebrate as much but instead tries to think about what more he can improve.

“I think whatever I have achieved so far in my career is because of that attitude, did not settle for anything, constantly looking to improve. I maintained that if I don’t like doing different things and if I lose the patience to do something new or get satisfied then I might not play the sport anymore. I don’t celebrate victories as much as I ideally should because for me victory is an incident and is coincidental to planning and practice. I sit and think about what can be better,” he said.

This is a sport that gives meaning to life: Ravichandran Ashwin

He continues to talk about the sport and the passion that drives him to continue to succeed. Ravichandran Ashwin, who’s usually active on Twitter interacting with fans, mentioned how the opinions about his gameplay don’t affect his mentality because of the type of person he is.

“It is just absolutely wonderful that I can ply my trade and feed my family and I get paid so well. This is a sport that gives meaning to life. I am too excited about it. I don’t have time for people rating me or not rating me, it’s just another person’s opinion and that’s just brutally how I live my life,” Ashwin concluded.
