On June 8 at the Oval in London, Team India’s captain Rohit Sharma was unable to perform with the bat against Australia in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final.
The right-handed batter came back and scored 15 runs off of 26 balls, two of which were long balls.
As India lost their first wicket for 30 runs in the sixth over, the 36-year-old was declared leg before wicket to Australian captain Pat Cummins.
As the Mumbai Indians (MI) batted poorly in the IPL 2023, Rohit was coming off of that performance. Including two half-centuries, he scored 332 runs in 16 games.
Rohit Sharma’s failure in India’s opening innings, which came after Australia scored 469 runs, infuriated fans on Twitter. One user tweeted:
“Rohit Sharma stumbled again during knockout. Please don’t guess my surprise.”

For those who are unaware, Sharma has struggled to contribute significantly for Team India in recent ICC knockout games.
In the championship game of the 2017 Champions Trophy, the right-handed batter made no runs against Pakistan.
The 2019 World Cup semifinal matchup between Rohit and New Zealand featured just one run from him.
The Mumbai batter came back in the inaugural 2021 WTC final against the same team with scores of 34 and 30.
In the semifinals of the 2022 T20 World Cup against England, he scored 27 out of 28 runs. It’s interesting to note that India dropped all of these games.
When India bats again in the World Tennis Championship final, Rohit Sharma will, if necessary, try to redeem himself.
Following Rohit Sharma’s decision to bowl, Steve Smith and Travis Head put Australia in the lead.
Australia racked up 469 runs in their first innings of the WTC final thanks to a masterful batting display from Travis Head and Steve Smith.
Head hit 25 boundaries and one six in his 163-point performance off 174 balls. Along with that, Smith added 121 off 268 balls, including 19 fours.
The two of them collaborated on a 285 run partnership for the fourth wicket.
Additionally, Marnus Labuschagne, David Warner, and Alex Carey contributed runs totaling 48, 43, and 26.
Mohammed Siraj was the standout ball player for India, scoring 4/108 in his return. Also taking a few wickets each were Mohammed Shami and Shardul Thakur. Also taking one wicket was all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja.
India was 37/2 at Tea at the time this article was being written, with Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara on the field.
