Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) fast bowler Yash Dayal has been prohibited from participating in the 2025 Uttar Pradesh T20 League following legal proceedings against him. The Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) took the decision after serious allegations surfaced.
Dayal, who had been purchased by the Gorakhpur Lions for ₹7 lakh in this year’s auction, was expected to be a key figure for the team. However, his selection was overturned when a police case involving charges of sexual exploitation came to light, prompting the state cricket body to suspend his participation until further notice.
Allegations of Sexual Exploitation and FIR Details
The controversy began when a First Information Report (FIR) was lodged against Dayal on July 6 at the Indirapuram police station in Ghaziabad. The complaint was filed under Section 69 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to sexual exploitation under the false promise of marriage.
According to the complainant, she and Dayal were in a relationship for approximately five years. During this period, she alleged that Dayal repeatedly assured her of marriage but continuously delayed taking any concrete steps toward it. The woman further claimed that Dayal was simultaneously involved with other women while being in a relationship with her. She accused him of exploiting her trust and emotions while avoiding his commitments.
Player’s Legal Response and Appeal for Relief
In response, Yash Dayal filed a petition challenging the FIR and seeking relief from arrest. His legal team argued that the offence under Section 69 requires clear proof that the accused never intended to fulfil a marriage promise from the outset. Dayal maintained that his case did not meet this criterion and, therefore, the charges were unfounded.
He requested the court to quash the FIR entirely and grant him protection from arrest while the matter is under judicial review. Despite his appeal, the UPCA has opted for a precautionary suspension, stating that the integrity of the league and the seriousness of the allegations necessitate his temporary exclusion.
The incident has cast a shadow over the young pacer’s career, which had been gaining momentum after his IPL stint. It has also sparked debates on how sports bodies should respond to ongoing criminal cases involving players.
While the legal process is yet to determine the truth of the accusations, the ban has already affected Dayal’s immediate cricketing opportunities. The outcome of the case will likely shape the trajectory of his professional future in both domestic and franchise cricket.
